Brazil Brazil!
Wouldn’t you love to travel to Brazil and watch the Carnivale live? I know I would!
The whole festival seems so exciting! Tons of people! Skimpily clad men and women! Great music and dancing! And overall lots of Latin flair and fun!
The Carnivale’s roots actually came from the ancient Romans and Greeks. It was their way to celebrate spring! The Catholic church tried to stop the paganistic celebration, but they weren’t succesful. Later they adapted it as a form of thanksgiving for them as well.
The Europeans brought this celebration with them when they went to travel the new world, but somehow it morphed into something different with the Portugese! They were just into too much merriment, and brought in the Entrudo- prank makers who throw things like water and flour in ones face!
In 1840, an Italian wife of a Rio de Janiero opted for a masked ball instead of the flour throwing. This came into fashion and people opted for this instead of the silly pranks!
