So far in the first season of Journeyman we haven’t seen anything that Dan has done in the past really have a big direct effect on his present state. However this week’s episode titled Double Down changes that. Dan goes back to 1999 in this episode where he ends up in the back seat of a guy name Joel’s SUV saving him from getting shot by a gang he is going to testify against the following day. The gang fines a name tag with Dan’s name on it and it seems as though they went to his place (as of 1999) to take him out. This is the first time Dan has been in the past for an extended period of time, and the first time that his prior actions are going to have a direct effect on the present.

One of the big things we see in this episode is Dan and Livia having a bit of riff between the two. You can see Livia is a between perplexed by the fact that Dan moved on so quickly after her so called death, and we learn of Dan’s big downfall into gambling as well. Dan is finding that the gang who wanted to kill Joel is after him, and there not letting up and followed him to a late night poker game.

This is a pretty complex episode, so explaining it is going to be a bit of a challenge. There is a fight that the 1999 Dan gets into with the 2007 Dan, kind of weird, but the 2007 one wins and brings the 99 Dan back to his place. There is one problem, they changed the course of history, and it was that night that Dan was saved by Katie and Dan says it was that moment that brought the two together. This is also the first episode where Dan and Livia are working together and we see Livia time travel.

The ending of this episode was the perfect “November Sweeps” style ending because there is going to be a huge storyline coming in the next week or two. We all know that Dan got a good deal of money in the Dylan McCleen episode. Well Dan’s brother took it into the station and now he turned Dan in as the owner of the money. Luckily for Dan Livia traveled in time and got the rest of the money. This was a great Journeyman episode and makes for another great episode next week.
